Founded in 1969, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is a semiconductor company that designs and produces computer processor technology. Its products also include graphics processing units (GPUs), server CPUs, high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence processors, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and network accelerators. AMD’s latest products are based on the 14nm Zen+[1] and 7nm Epyc[2] microprocessor technologies, with plans to upgrade to 12nm in 2020 and beyond.

Among desktop processors, AMD’s Ryzen series has carved a niche in the market by offering balanced performance with reasonable pricing. They’re great for running office programs, multimedia content creation, and gaming. The Ryzen 5000 series of processors feature integrated Radeon Graphics, which delivers impressive video and image quality without the need for an additional discrete graphics card.

In the server market, AMD’s EPYC processors set new standards for x86 CPU performance, security and scalability. They’re designed to handle large scientific and engineering datasets, run complex compute-intensive models, and transform data into actionable insights.

AMD’s newest offerings are the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 5600G. Both offer exceptional gaming performance with 8 cores, 16 threads, and up to 24MB of cache. Thanks to AMD’s Precision Boost and innovative thread-targeting technique, these chips deliver near-overlocked performance right out of the box. That’s a big deal when competing against Intel’s flagship Core i9 processors, which require a hefty price premium to unlock the same gaming performance. AMD processors
